August 17 Mt St Helen, WA

We started our vacation today. We flew from Boise to Portland, OR, then drove into Washington to see Mt St Helen's. The last time we were there, was in the mid 80's after the eruption. Trees are now 25 - 30 years old. It looks so different. We drove on the north side of the mountain this time, the side that blew out. The weather is perfect too, in the mid 70's. It did get cool by evening. We ate supper outside at a restaurant on the river. One man said he saw a bear out in the water. His wife said it was an elk. Most of us couldn't see anything, so it could have been anything he wanted it to be.
