March 4 Las Vegas, NV

Seemed like we would never get out of town. We needed to go to the bank, get fuel and fix the tire again. The valve stem that we fixed before we left Idaho is still leaking. When we finally found a tire store, it took them a couple hours to just get the truck jacked up and the tire off. Then they couldn't fix it. Had to buy a new rim, because the old one was ruining the stem. Also, Jim had put three new tires on the truck a week or so before we left home.

The trip over the mountain has it's ups and downs (bad!) We had to find a new motel in Las Vegas, because there are races here this weekend and the town is full! I couldn't believe the neighborhood that we are in. We drove by so many homeless people. In a couple areas they have a tent city, if they are lucky enough to have a tent. This land is right by the highway. I have never seen so many homeless people before. I kept thinking, except by the grace of God, it could be us or even you.

Where do these poor people come from, how do they get any food to eat? How safe are they when they sleep? What good would it do if I gave them soap and shampoo, where would they use it? They don't even have the use of a bathroom. There are no stores or restaurants around here that they can go in to. Where do they go when it rains, snows or gets too cold? And how do people like you and me help them?
