It was a very long trip from Carson City to Pahrump. We knew that we had to get up early and get on the road. We didn't know how early we were going to get up through. When I woke up, I looked at the clock and jumped into the shower. Jim laughed at me, because the clock was one hour early. But it did get us on the road.
Breakfast in motels are not all created equal. This one had almost nothing, a roll, a breakfast bar and a drink. And the road was long and through a very sparcely inhabited area. It was hours before we stopped for lunch. By then we needed to get out and walk around too. It was interesting to notice the difference in weather the farther south we got. We went from dead winter to early summer in just a matter of hours.
So we actually got to Pahrump a little early, since we didn't take out time to eat much. We had a very exciting experience when we arrived in town.
Jim parked in the middle of a big parking lot, while he went in to register at the motel. Even early, there were only two rooms left. While he was gone, I was setting in the truck reading a book. I noticed that a car pulled in to park in front of the truck, but other than that, I didn't pay much attention until I heard a lady talking to me out the window. She wanted to know how we got such a neat job. Then she started talking about Idaho. Appears that they were living there this summer. They have been studing the Adventist message with a couple there. And they wanted to know if I knew where they could buy the book Steps to Christ. They were so excited to find out that I have a hundred or so in the truck.
So I opened the truck and took them shopping. They have been reading The Great Controversary and only had a couple chapters left. I found them the rest of the Conflict set and a couple other books.
The man is a minister, but has been unemployed for over a year. They have been living in a small camper. But their spirits are good and they are so excited about studing the Advent message. They had lots of questions that I feel the Lord must have answered for me, because I don't remember just what I said. They seemed impressed with the answers. I think that we had a 'devine appointment' to meet with them. I am so thankful that the Lord can use us to help spread the message.
